In EDUC 394, as a class, we were instructed to create a bulletin board in groups. With complete creative freedom, my group created a bulletin board that we planned to be inclusive and welcoming.

As everyone in my group had a stellar sense of wordplay, we decided to go with a slogan of “You BEE-long,” which is meant to be inclusive of all students, staff, faculty and otherwise. Naturally, this bulletin board is currently (as of November 2021) in the Faculty of Education wing of UNBC, and was designed to be a welcome to the floor, alongside an idea that could be easily transported to any elementary school hallway or classroom.
Each of the bees says a different positive thing, “bee curious,” “bee yourself,” “bee a friend,” and “bee kind.” These were the sayings that resonated with each of us, I wrote “bee kind” because this is the most important thing that anyone can be, learning to be kind and accepting of peers and differences. I think that all of these sayings are important to an inclusive classroom, and encourage students to grow and learn.
