Educators engage in professional learning.
Class:
Evidently, classes are not directly linked to professional learning, but in this degree, every class lends to furthering my teaching!
In numeracy, we were able to look at different ways to teach concepts – some were out of the box for me.

In fine arts, we looked at our personal/professional growth, bettering our sense of selves to better our profession.

Our second language course led us outside, learning the importance of outdoor learning and immersing students in authentic situations.

Reading:
My goal is to better my education through reading and supplementing ideas with sources beyond UNBC. I have done this both through
Non-fiction Reading Power – Adrienne Gear
- This book made me think a lot about what non-fiction materials actually are! They range from recipes to articles to biographies – it was really interesting to make connections to my own reading, how do I read and ingest information, how does it stay there?
Powerful Understanding – Adrienne Gear
- A peer let me use her copy – it was a very good read on getting to know students and students connecting school to self to family to community.
Writing Power – Adrienne Gear
- What are the steps that should be taken from the start of a writing project alllllll the way to the end! I enjoyed planning with the materials and using the ideas to better understand how to teach writing in my EDUC 491 practicum and beyond.
Teachers These Days – Jodi Carrington and Laurie McIntosh
- This book is all about connecting, reconnecting, and creating community in the school and classroom through and after COVID-19. I found this book really hard to read, as it discusses the role of grief in professional settings, and the importance of using connections appropriately.
Collecting Evidence and Portfolios: Engaging Students in Pedagogical Documentation – Ann Davies et al.
- I have wanted to create portfolios since I saw them used in EDUC 390! I think that this book has such cool ideas for how to use portfolios – with specific examples about how to implement them in elementary, middle, and high schools!
