Students worked on their writing over the course of three blocks, a total of 3 hours. I split the lesson over three lessons for: 1. planning, 2. writing, and 3. editing and finishing.

To plan – students were given a resource to lay out their thoughts through their senses. They chose their favourite room and then we discussed different things we could see, hear, feel, smell, and taste. I modelled using the document camera with my own example of my kitchen being my favourite room in the house.

Students stretched their brains to think of what they could taste in their different rooms – especially if they chose something they didnt eat in!

Students spent the next day writing their piece, which set very high expectations as I was more lenient earlier in this practicum. I learned that by setting those expectations, students will reach that expectation, if they are low – students will reach that lower bar, if they are high – students will aim for it.

The editing process was interesting, they worked on using capitalization, usage, punctuation, and spelling and made sure that they related all of their content to their favourite room.
